Our Commitment to Privacy
OpenSnap is built with privacy as a core principle. Your screenshots and data belong to you and stay on your device. We do not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal information or data with any third party.
Local-First Data Model
OpenSnap is a desktop application that runs entirely on your device. Screenshots are saved to your local Desktop (or your chosen folder). Application settings are stored in %APPDATA%/OpenSnap/settings.json. Nothing is ever sent to a remote server.
The application functions fully offline with no internet connection required.
What We Collect
Nothing. OpenSnap does not include analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or crash reporting. The app makes only the following network requests:
- Update check — An optional check against the GitHub API to detect new versions. This is triggered manually (Check for Updates) and reads a public API endpoint. No identifying information is sent.
- Microsoft Store — If installed via the Store, standard Store telemetry and update services may apply as governed by Microsoft's privacy policy.
Third-Party Services
OpenSnap is distributed through the Microsoft Store and GitHub Releases. When you download from these platforms, their respective privacy policies apply. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement and GitHub's Privacy Statement.
The OpenSnap website (snap.kovina.org) is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard HTTP request logs as part of their hosting service. We do not access or analyse these logs. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Data Deletion
All data is stored locally on your device. To delete it:
- Screenshots: Delete the files from your file system. OpenSnap does not copy or move your screenshots beyond the save location you choose.
- Settings: Delete
%APPDATA%/OpenSnap/settings.jsonor uninstall the application. - Pinned captures & history: Use the Clear option in the history dialog.
Data Export
Your screenshots are already saved as standard PNG files on your file system. Settings can be exported by copying %APPDATA%/OpenSnap/settings.json. No additional export tools are necessary — your data is already in an open, portable format.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised. We will never reduce your privacy rights without notice.
